Diponegoro University (Undip) has appointed Prof. Suharnomo as the elected Rector to lead the alma mater for the 2024-2029 period. This announcement was made by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of Undip, Prof. Mohamad Nasir, M.Si., Akt., Ph.D., in his speech during the Rector Candidate Debate held at Prof. Soedarto, S.H. Building on Tuesday (20/6).
Prof. Nasir explained that the process of selecting the Undip Rector for the 2024-2029 period began in January 2023. Four Rector Candidates were involved in the initial stage, namely Prof. Ir. Mochamad Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Faculty of Engineering); Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. (Faculty of Economics and Business); Prof. dr. Muhamad Thohar Arifin, Ph.D., P.A., Sp.BS. (K) (Faculty of Medicine); and Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D. (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences).
“The Rector’s selection process continued with the Screening stage on June 8, 2023, where, after the assessment by the Panelists, three Rector Candidates with the highest scores were determined, namely Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si.; Prof. Ir. Mochamad Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D.; and Prof. dr. Muhamad Thohar Arifin, Ph.D., P.A., Sp.BS. (K),” explained Prof. Nasir.
The Rector Candidate Debate is a crucial part of the Rector Candidate Selection and Appointment process by MWA. The debate is open and accessible to the academic community through streaming on YouTube Undip TV Official or by attending in person at Prof. Soedarto Building. Prof. Nasir hopes that the elected Rector can advance Undip during the 2024-2029 period.
In the debate, Prof. Suharnomo highlighted the achievements of Main Performance Indicators 1 at Undip, especially in tracer studies and the high number of alumni working in multinational companies. Prof. Agung presented the mission of “Go Global, Good Governance,” emphasizing international achievements and transparent governance. Prof. Thohar emphasized Undip’s responsibility to solidify its status as a World-Class University through funding, research, and improving rankings.
In the voting and appointment stage of the Rector Candidate by MWA, Prof. Suharnomo garnered the most votes with 14, followed by Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo with 9 votes, and Prof. Thohar with 0 votes. Thus, MWA officially declared Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. as the Elected Rector of Undip for the 2024-2029 term.
